Design of the Swan Hill District Health’s new emergency department reaches halfway mark.

Swan Hill District Health Emergency Department Redevelopment – Stage 1 Completion

The Swan Hill District Health (SHDH) emergency department’s Stage 1 redevelopment has successfully been completed, marking a significant enhancement in healthcare provision for Swan Hill and its surrounding regions. The SHDH will provide essential services to a geographically dispersed population, with the nearest higher-level facilities located 200 kilometres away in Bendigo and 230 kilometres away in Mildura.

Achievements of Stage 1

The completed Stage 1 of the redevelopment focused on expanding the emergency department’s capacity, reducing wait times, and upgrading the clinical environment to support the community from initial treatment to recovery. The project was guided by a masterplan developed by LCI in collaboration with VHBA to address the unique challenges of delivering specialist acute care in this remote setting. This strategic framework ensures that the facility’s infrastructure and building assets align with the evolving needs of the community.

LCI’s Role and Services

Throughout Stage 1, LCI provided critical design services, including Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, Hydraulic, Sustainability/ESD, Vertical Transport, and Comms/Security/AV/ICT design services. Our approach was to create a patient-centric facility that not only meets contemporary care models but also enhances patient care and supports the operational needs effectively. The design also incorporated sustainability and resilience considerations, ensuring that the facility could continue to serve the community efficiently in the long term.

Stay tuned for more updates as we progress with this transformative project and continue to make a positive impact on healthcare in the Swan Hill region and across Australia.
