National Gallery of Australia (NGA) Creative Learning Centre

This project involved the conversion of the small theatre at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) into a Creative Learning Centre (CLC). The new multi-purpose art studio space is capable of hosting creative workshops as it provides creative learning and presentation opportunities for all ages ranging from early-childhood through to tertiary and adult learning providers including educators and museum professionals.

LCI were responsible for the design and delivery of a modern, quality and agile accommodation solution for the new CLC.

We developed a modular lighting system that mirrored the brutalism architecture of the building. The fittings were custom designs by LCI, then manufactured and tested off-site before being installed under supervision of the exhibition managers.

We worked very closely with the heritage architects and the national capital authority. Due to the age of the building, all of the services were run within existing wall cavities and conduits, thus requiring detailed site investigations throughout the design and construction process.
