LCI’s Engineering Contribution to Award-Winning Nganboo Borron School Project

LCI is proud to have played an integral role in the engineering of Melbourne’s Nganboo Borron School, a recipient of the prestigious Minister’s Award at the 2024 Victorian School Design Awards. As part of the Victorian School Bundle Authority’s New Schools 2024 initiative, this project showcases our commitment to engineering spaces that support modern educational needs. In collaboration with DesignInc and Brand Architects, our team dedicated itself to creating a standalone facility that mirrors the Department of Education and Training’s vision—where learning spaces are as dynamic as the curriculum they support.

Engineering for Education

Understanding that modern education demands adaptable learning environments, our engineering solutions prioritised flexibility to accommodate varying teaching styles and learning needs. From individual study zones to collaborative spaces, our design facilitates an educational journey that is both inclusive and innovative.

Scope and Services

Our involvement extended to comprehensive engineering disciplines:

• Electrical, Data & Communications: We implemented advanced data infrastructure to support high-speed internet access and smart classroom technologies.
• Mechanical Engineering: Our HVAC systems were designed for optimal air quality and energy efficiency, ensuring a comfortable learning environment year-round.
• Hydraulic and Fire Services: We designed advanced hydraulic systems that ensure efficient water management and fire protection. Our fire services incorporate state-of-the-art detection and suppression technologies, providing a robust safety framework that meets stringent regulatory standards.
• Audio-Visual and Vertical Transport: Our audio-visual systems are engineered for seamless integration, enhancing the learning experience with interactive technologies. Additionally, we implemented efficient vertical transport solutions, including elevators and escalators, designed for optimal accessibility and flow within the school.
• Energy and ESD Design: Our energy and sustainability solutions focused on implementing environmentally and ecologically sustainable designs that are practical, reliable, and maintainable. Using robust engineering practices alongside advanced modelling and simulation where appropriate, we ensured sustainable outcomes that align with long-term environmental goals without compromising on functionality or ease of maintenance.

Collaboration and Compliance

This project stood out not just for its scale but for the depth of collaboration between all stakeholders. Navigating complex regulatory frameworks required precise engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with the Building Quality Standards Handbook while maintaining design integrity.
