Northern Beaches had been classified as a primary growth area in the Mackay region, with more than 20,000 people expected to call it home over a 10 year period.
To accommodate for the influx in population, Mackay Regional Council agreed to build the Northern Beaches High School.
LCI were excited to carry be involved in the new development by providing ESD services and Energy Analysis and Thermal Modelling.
This new Greenfield high school development incorporates Education Queensland’s first Central Energy Plant using chilled water storage. LCI carried out a whole-of-life study which resulted in selection of the central plant.
The system has a longer life, less greenhouse gas emissions and lower energy cost. The project also incorporates natural lighting, passive energy efficient elements, a photovoltaic system, energy efficient luminaires and lighting control systems.
